The Not-So-Monthly Update
A new comic book is at loose on the internet; and thoughts on going ahead with things despite your fears.
Hi there!
If you’re new to Comics, Stories & Things, welcome. Thank you so much for subscribing. ❤️
I’m writing to you from my hometown in Portugal today, where the weather is as mildly disappointing as back in the UK. And I have to say that I’m taking a small satisfaction in that fact. Portugal ain’t having it better than us. No sir! But now, seriously, it would be nice to see some sun, please. 🌞
Today, there’s news to share! Chapter three of The Last Day of Rain is out, and you can order the digital and paperback versions from my shop.
In this issue, besides speaking a bit more about the comic, I’m sharing a few personal notes on doing the things that inspire you despite being afraid of failure. You can also read a review of “What Happened On Thursday”, by Weird is The Best, a collection of beautifully done daily comics about life and cats. Finally, I recommend a science-fiction anthology on Kickstarter, created by Nick Bryan, which I think you will love.
LET’S GO!
The Last Day of Rain: The Story Continues
Do you enjoy science fiction and resonate more with the world-building and story parts of it? For about two years, I have been creating a miniseries of science-fiction comic books set in London in 2091, where it does not rain at all. I know, I know. With the weather these days, it all sounds rather unbelievable. But be careful with what you wish for. ☀️
That Last Day of Rain features a shy artist-engineer in love with the tools of his trade, an underground city inhabited by the rich, a main character who won’t take being broken up with via holographic letters as an answer, and some thoughts about segregation in a world where we should be tackling problems together.

Do It Scared: The Indie Comics Edition
We all talk ourselves out of things all the time. Out of taking a walk outside because we won't be bothered to put on shoes. Out of picking up that book we’ve been wanting to read because we don’t have the time. Out of trying something new because there are lots of people doing it already and, oh god, we’ll never be as good as them.
Comic Review: "What Happened on Thursday", by Weird is The Best
We live in complicated times. For all the grief and empathy for the state of the world in our hearts, I’m sure that almost every person reading this has felt like leaving the phone behind and holing up somewhere in the mountains. Up high, with no network reception nor electricity, sitting by a warm fireplace because it must be cold outside.
Kickstarter Spotlight: The Collected Letters of Courier-Z
Do you like science fiction and wonder what the life of Amazon and Evri drivers is like? This anthology of short stories, written by Nick Bryan and illustrated by a group of talented artists, is funding on Kickstarter at the moment. It features a cat that, according to the reviews, isn’t all that different from Mr Clippy, which is guaranteed to please millennials all over:
But Nick is much better at explaining his own work, for obvious reasons:
After humanity expands across the universe... After technology takes us to the stars…
There's still a never-ending pressure to deliver.
Intergalactic postwoman Courier Z lives in her ship, pushes post all day long, slaves away under a system that shows no mercy — and it's never enough. No wonder she's started taking off-the-books jobs from less than savoury private customers. A girl has to eat! And laws keep you poor!
Z’s even reprogrammed her cute computer assistant J.E.S.S. to bring maximum efficiency to her hectic schedule - dropping people's birthday presents from their mum and the special pills for the after-party. But could Courier Z come to regret deactivating those morality locks for complete crime competence?
Sounds like she might.
This is it for today! Thank you for staying with me, and see you soon!
