Carol lives in a cloudless London, where the last days of rain are long gone. In pursuit of the dream of seeing rain again, she follows a data theft suspect, and rejected lover, towards a rich underground neighbourhood she despises. In the process, she will have to face a family past she would rather have forgotten forever.

That Last Day of Rain happens in 2091. It features a shy artist-engineer in love with the tools of his trade:

There’s an underground city, built south of the river Thames, where Surrey Quays used to be:

A main character who won’t take being broken up with over holographic letters as an answer:

And thoughts about segregation in a world where we should be tackling problems together:

The third chapter's cover features Carol looking lost while walking around Shiba Town. Even though you see some clouds in the sky, don't let yourself be fooled: the neighbourhood is underground and features a holographic sky. Also, those plants? Probably not real. They have water, but how could they possibly grow this much greenery? 🌱

This is still a sketch, which I’m currently developing. For the cover of the fourth chapter, I decided to explore a duality with the previous chapter. So if you place both books together, Carol and Art will be walking towards each other. But she's underground in Shiba Town, and he's on the surface, in Rother High. Looking forward to finishing this one!

It also features… a HAIRCUT? I'm not saying much about that. You'll have to wait and see. :D

And here's the variant for chapter three! Carol looks very angry behind one of Art's earrings. What could possibly have happened?

This is the other variant, and it shows a half-ruined Rother High behind an obviously falling Art and his fancy new haircut. In case you've wondered what those are, the pillars holding Shiba Town's roof are visible in the background.

The building in the middle was inspired by an empty gas holder in Rotherhithe, which they have been meaning to convert into flats for years. I'm drawing this assuming they'll finally have done it in 2091!

The much anticipated (*cough*) time has finally arrived!

Initially, I wrote a story about a family who arrived at a space station. But when it came to the drawing stage, I found myself sketching four pages about grief and why I stopped playing the violin. It’s been a while since I made an auto-biographical comic, but before moving to fiction, my first strips were about processing feelings.

So this was a return to my roots, of sorts. And it felt great!

It’s a sad comic, but I promise that it ends on a positive note!

If you remember the sketch from last time, here’s how it ended up:

This sequence features Carol running across Rother High (formerly known as Rotherhithe) in the scorching London heat of 2091 and finally finding a haven in the air-conditioned IT repair shop/cafe where she works.

I know that London and heat are words that don’t often go together, except for those two weeks when we all have no idea what to do with ourselves and end up wearing swimwear in parks. But in Carol’s time, heat is a common occurrence, and rain is non-existent!

Here’s a bonus page where you can see almost all the characters who appear in this issue. Except for Giselle, the cat, who was hidden in a corner outside the whole time, and we only see her when Pepper scares the hell out of her.
